About Avocent
History
Avocent was formed in 2000 from the merger of the world’s
two largest KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) switch manufacturers:
Apex and Cybex Computer Products Corporation. Today,
with more than two decades of experience, Avocent is
the leading global provider of KVM switching and network
connectivity solutions for data centers of all sizes.
Avocent has grown through product innovations, global
expansion and strategic acquisitions. In 2001, Avocent
acquired Equinox Systems; 2C Computing was acquired in
2002 and is now the company’s Digital Desktops
Division; Soronti, Inc. and Crystal Link Technologies
were acquired in 2003; OSA Technologies, Inc. and Sonic
Mobility, Inc. were acquired in 2004.
Avocent KVM
The history of Avocent innovation includes multi-platform
switching, analog matrix switching, extension over
CAT 5, PCI bus extension, patented on-screen menus,
remote KVM connectivity, digital KVM over IP connections,
digital-analog integrated access to multiple servers
and wireless KVM extension.
KVM switching systems eliminate the need for extra
keyboards, monitors and mice and allow businesses to
save critical space in their data centers. KVM over
IP switching systems eliminate distance limitations
and provide 24/7 access and control to any number of
servers. Avocent software management and KVM over IP
switching systems allow IT managers to sit at a single
console and have secure, local and remote access and
control of multiple servers and network data center
devices including power and environmental systems.
Avocent DSR switches are revolutionary in the industry.
They combine powerful analog and digital connections
in one switch using Avocent KVM over IP switching technology
and CAT 5 connectivity. Administrators can gain worldwide
access and control of their servers and serial devices
and can track them all from a single computer screen.
The expanding Avocent product line includes the DS
Series, AMX, SwitchView and AutoView KVM switching
systems.
Equinox
Recognized as the leader in serial connectivity products,
Equinox provides high-speed serial communications
which integrate seamlessly into any application that
needs a flexible, reliable and cost-effective serial
connectivity solution. The Equinox network-based
appliance family is comprised of serial hubs and
terminal servers. The flexible bus-based family includes
a range of multiport serial adapters supplemented
with connector panel and cabling convenience options
for servers and workstations.
Digital Desktops
Digital Desktops award-winning PCI bus extension solution
is the only digital transport method available today
between a desktop and remote PC. A small footprint
desktop appliance receives the PCI bus signal allowing
for full PC functionality without the PC present.
Applications for the product include crowded trading
floors, harsh industrial plants and secure government
facilities requiring security of physical assets
and data.
Soronti
Soronti innovative technologies and system management
expertise strengthen Avocent server management offerings
and the development of embedded technologies for
servers. Soronti engineering contributed to the development
of the SwitchView IP KVM solution which provides
access to a single PC or existing KVM switch from
anywhere in the world.
Crystal Link
Crystal Link, which played a role in the development
of the first Avocent wireless KVM extension product,
provides a family of wireless solutions that combine
proprietary digital processing and data compression
technology with the latest broadband digital RF transmission.
The result is performance that is virtually identical
to traditional wired displays.
OSA Technologies, Inc.
